First RORO vessel to ply Batangas and Marinduque route

Manila (30 December) — The M/V Virgen de Peñafrancia II, a Roll-on Roll-off (roro) vessel financed by DBP Maritime Leasing Corporation (DMLC) and owned by Star Horse Shipping Lines, will be the first vessel to service passengers at the Subuquin Terminal in San Juan, Batangas.

The roro vessel has been given a “missionary route operator status” by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), and will particularly provide efficient, fast, and reliable shipping service to residents of San Juan, Batangas and Mogpog, Marinduque.

Imported from Korea under the financial leasing program of DMLC –a subsidiary of state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) –the roro vessel is expected to provide vital support to the agricultural, industrial, and regional development of Batangas and Marinduque.

This initiative complements efforts under DBP’s Sustainable Logistics Development Program (SLDP) and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s Strong Republic Nautical Highway program which both aim to provide an efficient network of transport infrastructure that will link the entire country through a modern Road Roll-on Roll-off Terminal System (RRTS).
